Hope everyone is having a wonderful Thursday! I have to say, kind of a Bla day for some reason… Not sure why but with the weather changed to gray and dreary, it changed the overall energy of things… I know I have been saying that I am okay with the weather change but there is a difference between good gray weather and dreary dark gray weather. Today is not a holiday gray but a dreary dark gray. I may not be making sense but for some reason there is an energy out there that I am not liking! Good thing today was an Active Rest day because my energy was slim to none! Active Rest with a circuit with Traci and then home for a yummy scramble! (mushrooms, onions, broccoli, tomatoes, egg whites, no salt seasoning and a touch of lemon)
Had a similar scramble for meal 3 but added in crumbled up Flax Chips for more of a Mexican Scramble
Meal 4: QUEST BAR
Meal 5: protein shake with an apple and almonds
meal 6 and 7: to be determined…
Been working online and had a few phone calls and now headed out to walk Bruno and call it a night. My mom is headed into town tomorrow so you all will get to meet her! 😉 I will be sure to capture her on film for you all to formally meet her! 🙂
THOUGHT OF THE DAY AND LESSON LEARNED….
Even though a bit pricey, Orange Roughy is one of my favorite tasting fish!
I love the buttery flavor of this large deep sea fish! Why does this fish taste so oil and what is that stuff that you eliminate in your urine from orange Roughy!? Yes, I did just type that… Heard of Roughy Runs… Not very pleasant but it is a fact, the wax esters present in this fish are not easily digested and therefore get eliminated. Now, the good news is Roughy is very low in calories and higher in natural fats, aiding in fat metabolism. On the other side of things, you have to beware because not all the fats are digestible. With that being said, the higher mercury levels are something you need to take seriously.
Orange Roughy has very high levels of substances known as wax esters among their oils. They form a lens on water instead of spreading out like other oils, and are less viscous than other oils.
These esters have a variety of uses in many industries, being used as lubricants, replacing hydraulic oil, used in candles and polishes and in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, printing and leather industries.
It is thought that wax esters function as energy reserves, stored in the muscles and other tissues, which are used up during long periods of starvation, as is common among deep-water and cold-water fish, hence why Roughy is high in these “energy reserves”.
“Wax esters are more hydrophobic than analogous triglycerides. For each hydrocarbon chain in triglycerides there is one hydrophilic ester group, whereas in wax esters there is one half of an ester group. A consequence of this difference is that the two lipids interact differently with water – the triglyceride spreads to cover the surface, but wax ester floats as a lens.” In other words, the difference in their chemical bonds makes them interact differently with water than other lipids.
Seems the enzymes to break down these wax esters is not the same for the breakdown of other fats and is much slower.
What does All this mean and why do I care…??? What this means is I have a conclusion as to why every time I eat Orange Roughy, in large amounts, I feel like a darn water buffalo!!! Every time and this is the last straw, Orange Roughy makes me hold water like no tomorrow… Putting my finger on it and owning it. Lesson learned… unlike other proteins, when Cooking Orange Roughy, only cook enough for a single serving rather than cooking up a bunch of it and eating it meal after meal! I made a ton on Tuesday night and it has been the protein of choice since then, needless to say– went over board on the Wax Esters and am now loaded with water… 😉
I am officially done with the Roughy for a while, lesson learned!! Once again, balance and moderation, right! Too much of anything.. even a low calorie fish, is not a good thing!!
Until tomorrow… off to walk and sweat out some of this, hopefully!!
xoxo
