I want to fill you in on a little secret that has helped me tremendously over the years. Just like everyone else, I do get cravings for something sweet and delicious every now and them— OK pretty frequently! I found something better to snack on than that sugar-filled CRAP that lines the shelves of grocery stores.
In fact, my perfect little treat meets 5 BIG requirements:
1. It satisfies my sweet tooth.
2. It’s easy to make.
3. It’s easy to take with me on the go.
4. It’s inexpensive.
5. And most of all… it’s healthy.
So what’s my little secret that meets all of these criteria? Cucumbers sprinkled with stevia!
Yep, you heard it right… cucumbers. I simply wash them, skin them, slice them, put them in a bowl, and then sprinkle some stevia on them. These sweet little snacks not only taste like watermelon (not kidding), but also have the following benefits:
Energy. Cucumbers are an excellent source of B vitamins.
Hydration and Vitamins. Because cucumbers are 95 percent water, they keep the body hydrated while helping to eliminate toxins. In addition, cucumbers contain most of the vitamins you need in one day!
Cancer Fighting. Research shows that lariciresinol, pinoresinol and secoisolariciresinol— three lignans found in cucumbers— may reduce the risk of several cancers, including breast cancer, ovarian cancer, uterine cancer and prostate cancer.
Fresh Breath. Ditch the gum and keep cucumber handy! It’s been reported that the phytochemicals in cucumbers can kill the bacteria in your mouth that causes bad breath. Try it out by pressing a slice of cucumber against the roof of your mouth with your tongue for 30 seconds.
Weight Loss and Digestion. Cucumbers are the perfect addition to a weight-loss diet since they are low in calories and high in water content. In addition, cucumbers contain dietary fiber and therefore may aid in digestion and chronic constipation.
Fights Diabetes. A hormone found in cucumber juice helps the pancreas produce insulin, which has shown to benefit diabetic patients.
But don’t take my word for it… The next time you’re craving something sweet, put down the chocolate and try some of my Stevia Cucumbers aka “watermelon.”
