Did you hear about a recently passed health care legislation states a new food-related law! As early as next year, ALL CHAIN RESTAURANTS with 20+ locations will be required to display calorie counts on menus and drive-thru boards. Plus, stats on vending-machine goodies will need to be displayed. Ignorance will no longer be an excuse!! Do you think this is going to make an imprint in our society’s obesity issues? I don’t think so but hey, worth a shot. Check out the article from the NY times by clicking on the link below:

Oh I think it will help!! I think the shock factor alone, just seeing the number of cal. and fat will make at least the avg. person choose wisely!!
At least we can hope it will help
How cool would it be if you could drive through and actually order 1/2 a sweet pot. with plain grilled chicken strips! Or side of “steamed” veggies with a nice piece of grilled fish!!!
One can dream 🙂
Oh yes, I would only hope those dreadful number make people think twice but I have a weird feeling they will not even phase the consumer!! Even still do those numbers relate to healthy choices— NO! Say you get a fried 3 oz fish fillet that has 120 calories vs. the grilled chicken breast that may have 135 calories (as an example) — okay so if you were to chose the fish because it has less calories, does that mean it is necessarily better for you? NO it is FRIED!!!! Not so sure I am digging this idea, nor do I think it will really solve our obesity issue, but hey Never say Never!
Yes, imagine, “hello, can I have a grilled chicken breast plain with a 1/2 c. of steamed rice and grilled veggies– no butter please!” Oh, that will be the day! I always thought that would be a great chain to open up but do you really think it would go over well? I think I would be out of business in not time, unfortunately…. Unless we all joined in with our GA dishes and famous chef’s we have on board, I think people would think twice about gong to Micky D’s and come on over to our joint! Healthy food doesn’t have to be as bland as people think and if only we could spread the word!!
