Q:
What about capers? I buy them at costco and they come in vinegar—without added sugar etc. I use them on fish and in salads to add extra zing! I think they are a fruit but I do not usually count the calories/ carbs they add—and I do not know if they even carry many calories / carbs. What do you know about them?
A:
GREAT QUESTION!! LOVE CAPERS AND YES, CAPERS ARE GINA APPROVED!! They are almost like pickles. Definitely okay and diet friendly the only thing is the high sodium. They are great in salads or over lean protein. I personally just use them sparingly because I am so sensitive to the sodium but other than that YES, definitely GINA APPROVED. They are strong and you don’t need too many… A little bit goes a long way. Enjoy your capers 🙂
1 tbsp = 2 calories, .1g fat, .4g carbs, .3 fiber, BUT 255mg sodium….
