Good Morning! Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend! Yesterday we celebrated Labor Day and I mentioned the social and economic achievements of American workers. Basically we celebrate our rights as workers! Today I want you to think about something else… Yes, work is certainly important and we need to all work but some people are so focused on work work work, that they forget about everything else. It is interesting, you talk to those that have worked their whole life and created a fortune for themselves and they will tell you, money is not important. The more money the bigger your problems! Of course, we need to work to provide for our families and ourselves and if you are enjoying what you do for work, you are never really working but what if you are not enjoying your work and feel that more is better, the harder you work and the longer you work, the better off you will be???!!
Even though we must work and create a living for ourselves, really work is NOT the most important thing. Yesterday, I was creating my Jar with the golf balls, pebbles and sand. Putting together what my golf balls symbolized and then what the pebbles signified and of course the sand was everything else. It really made me think about what were the most important things, at the end of the day, what REALLY, mattered. The golf balls represented things like Family, Health, Love, and quality time where as the pebbles symbolized things like work and our jobs, house, car, education, fitness, etc. The sand was all the other small stuff. Putting my jar together really made me think, yet again, about what truly is important (to me) and what the foundation of happiness is to me. Here in America, we are workaholics… Most people don’t stop to really embody the idea that work is not the most important thing.. What is of more importance is family, friends, and investing your time in those relationships. Sitting back and reflecting on what the “golf balls” were in my life, really puts things in perspective and made me appreciate the things that truly matter, those things that come secondary and then “the small stuff”. Next time you find yourself working so hard and getting stressed out over your work, think about whether or not you are investing your energy and time into the right areas… As we appreciate Labor and how far we have come, it is important to ensure labor/work doesn’t take over and affect the things that truly matter and are the core of our existence! As you can see with today’s economy, Labor is something that comes and goes, but our “golf balls” will be there forever!
Have you thought about what your “golf balls” would represent??
Yesterday we celebrated Labor now today take a moment to celebrate the things in life that, at the end of the day, matter and will be there no matter what!
Have a great day!
