As most of you know, ALL of my workouts are done in the comfort of my own home (garage) or outside at the beach or park. With my busy life as a full time working mom, I have found home workouts to work best for me, during this time of my life. With very limited time, being able to literally just walk out and get in a quick workout has helped me stay on track with no excuses. The time to drive to the gym, find parking, get in your workout and god forbid you have to wait for a machine or get stopped by someone who wants to have a full on conversation with you… I have found that working out at home has been the perfect solution to my jam packed schedule.

Although working out at home is super convenient, it also comes with a set of challenges. You may find yourself wanting to put in a load of laundry in or catering to your kids needs, in between sets. With all the distractions, it can be easy to not commit fully to your workouts, cut them short or find an excuse to why you can’t even get started.

Working out at home can be so beneficial, as long as you keep your distractions at bay. Check out my top tips for keeping you focused and less distracted while working out in the comfort of your own home:

Remove The Distractions
Distractions are everywhere when you are home. Whether it be family members, your pets, children, phone, computer or the mail carrier, there are a lot of things that can distract you from your workout.  If you stop to fold a load of laundry halfway through your workout or stop to answer a text message, that can be taking away from your precious workout time. The best thing you can do is commit yourself to a certain amount of time to complete your workout and block out that time for you. Just like you plan a date with a girl friend or have a business meeting on your calendar, block out your workout time as your time with NO distractions. The laundry, text messages, doorbell, they all can wait!

Create Your Own “Gym Environment”
Have fun to create a positive and motivating gym environment that looks and feels welcoming. One that makes you want to pump some iron and move your body. Put some motivational photos on the wall or have a nice little set up so you get excited when you enter your space. Having things organized and giving your gym space a good “gym like setting”. No matter how much or little equipment you have, you can create a nice space that gets you excited to workout. This could be as simple as having a music set up, organizing your weights and laying down a yoga mat. Put a little tender loving care into your gym environment and you will be surprised how much it will do for your workouts and eliminating distractions.

Put Your Phone Down
Your cell phone can be the biggest distraction of them all. As hard as it is, put down your phone, turn it on silent or even turn it completely off while you commit to your workout. Rather than using your phone to play music, have another devise set up strictly for your workout tunes. Having the alerts go off on your phone are all too distracting and can take you away from your zone. When your phone is close, it is too easy to check in on Facebook or Instagram.  Do yourself a favor and turn off your phone!

I hope these tips are helpful and keep you focused and digging deep while enjoying working out in the comfort of your own home!!
