When we talk about fat loss, we need to take a broader approach than most people. When you say fat loss, we are talking losing fat and ideally we’re preserving muscle. That is what we want. We also are talking about losing fat so that it stays off as long as possible. AKA: FOREVER. With those two goals in mind, you’re trying to keep as much lean muscle as you can and you’re trying to make this a successful journey you can maintain day after day, year after year.
The #1️⃣ predictor of long-term successful weight loss and remember I am referring to FAT loss, not just weight loss, is always adherence.
Adherence to your workout program AND your nutrition program. The first step in losing stubborn body fat is coming up with the method of exercise and nutrition- notice I didn’t say diet- that is best for adherence. If you are not paying attention to what is going to make you show up day after day- we must start there.
➡️Let’s go back to what most do when they have fat to lose… they throw on their running shoes and say, “I am going start running until I reach my goals”. Let’s take a broader perspective on this one scenario… Is running something you can maintain? Is this the form of exercise you can adhere to for the long term? Most likely the answer is NO. Especially if you are over 40. I don’t know about you but my body simply can’t hold up on runs like it use to. We need to start by creating a form of exercise that our mind and our bodies can adhere to for the long-term and if running is not it, then it cannot be your go to when you want to lose lose stubborn belly fat.
➡️The same goes for nutrition. Most start “running” and cutting calories. Again, let’s take a broader perspective. Is cutting calories something you can adhere to forever? Is eating micro meals something that excites you? Most likely the answer is no. Especially if you are a woman over 40, you want to do whatever it takes to balance hormones and cutting calories is NOT the answer to hormonal balance.
The #1️⃣ Goal when trying to lose belly fat or fat in general is how you can drop fat while preserving muscle mass.
This is the secret to losing stubborn fat and keeping it off for life. There are many ways to do this and it doesn’t have to mean, running and cutting or cardio and cutting. We need to find a system that works for YOU and where you are in life. If you recall my story, I was a top professional figure competitor working out for hours in the gym. While I was able to shed belly and body fat, was that something I could adhere to for life? NO! That is why I had to shift what I was doing and figure out what I could stick to for life. That is when the G-Fit Circuits were created. Could I commit and adhere to 15-30 minutes a day? Heck yes! 20 years later, this is proof that it is ALL ABOUT finding what you can stick to. As your life and seasons change, so does your workouts and cardio.
The #1 mistake people make is they go with the philosophy of burn more and eat less. While this may work for the short-term it will NOT and I repeat, it will NOT work for the long term. ⏩If the answer is No, then you need to shift and find something else you can do. This may mean walking for 20 minutes a day or jumping rope for 5 minutes a day. This may also mean you ditch your fasting protocol- which is just your way of “cutting calories”, to adopt a more realistic way of eating that makes you dance with every meal because you are so excited that you GET TO EAT this way…
Whatever you decide is YOUR perfect plan, that is the secret to you shedding that stubborn belly fat. Maybe it isn’t your belly fat that is stubborn, maybe it is you and your mindset of old ways of thinking that is the problem?! 🤔
