Rather than think of these outrageous things you can do to help you achieve your fitness goals, let’s keep it simple and remember that simple things practiced on a regular basis will make all the difference. Consider these simple reminders and focus on implementing them in 2013!
-Set a REALISTIC single goal! No matter what that goal, weight loss, financial, etc. Write it down and set a deadline. A goal without a timeframe is a goal that will never be accomplished! Just as you are realistic with your goal, be realistic with your deadline.
-Don’t keep unhealthy food in your fridge or cupboards. If it isn’t there you won’t eat it. If weight loss is your goal, this is key to your success! Fill your house with Good Quality food and you will eat Good Quality food!
-Add exercise to your daily routine. Find what you love to do and do it. If walking on a treadmill makes you cringe, don’t make that a part of your new year. Find something you love to do. If it is walk your dog, walk your dog but do it for a good amount of time and do it daily! No matter what you do, just exercise daily!!!
-Don’t weigh yourself daily! Pick a day a week to weigh yourself. This is only used as a marker and to keep you on track but by no means a tracker of your success! Remember the scale is just a number and not a marker of your success!!! If the number on the scale gets to you, ditch it all together! Focus more on how you feel, how your clothes fit and your energy levels!!
-Do things for the right reasons! Do things because you want to, NOT because someone else want you to or you think it is what you should do. A goal that stems from you is a goal that you will accomplish because YOU want to!
-Daily reminders of your goal and why you want to achieve it will lead you towards achievement!
-Find a buddy to join you in your journey and be each others support! It makes all the difference when you are not alone in your journey!
-Drink more water! Keep a large water bottle with you at all times and aim to drink more water in 2013! Your weight in ounces is a bare minimum! if you are an avid exerciser, you should aim for 3/4 to 1 gallon a day! Simply carrying a water bottle with you will make all the difference!
-Mix it up! Change your workouts and meal plan so you never get bored. If weight loss is your goal, you need to keep it fresh and exciting!!
-Eat more meals at home! Save money and know what you are eating by preparing your own foods!!
-Prepare your meals in advance. A few extra hours of preparation will save you tons of calories! The grab and go philosophy will make your life so much easier and your weight loss goals so much more realistic! Either pick a few days a week as your prep days or as you prepare dinner, prepare a bit extra for your lunch the next day!
-Buy frozen vegetables! If you are not one to chop veggies, simply buy them frozen and they are so much easier to prepare! They often are more nutritious too because they are not sitting out for a while losing their nutritional value!
-Use Seasonings! Who like bland/boring food! It doesn’t have to be that way with a little bit of some spice! Get familiar with seasonings and use them. They will save you!
-Whenever possible, take the stairs!! Instead of hopping on the escalator or waiting for the elevator, take the stars. Every step counts!!
-Park as far away as possible! Not only does this save your car from getting dinged, it burns a few extra calories, which sure adds up!!
-Go for Stevia over Splenda!! Natural No Calorie Sweetener is always the better, healthier option!
-Find time to Stretch & Foam Roll!! A few minutes will make all the difference in preventing injuries and keeping your muscles long and lean!
-Floss!! Carry floss with you and aim to floss after every meal that involves chewing! Flossing is like brushing your teeth, it should be done multiple times a day, without question!
-Walk whenever you have a few extra minutes. Even if it is just down the street, moving those legs will burn calories, give you mental clarity and add years to your life!!
-Turn Off your Electronics!! Yes, this is a big one and maybe the most challenging but simply make time every day to Turn it Unplug and Recharge!! Turn off your phone, computer, stay off of Facebook and twitter and simply just be disconnected!
-Choose wheat over white! Try brown rice, wild rice, quinoa, oatmeal, buckwheat, amaranth, and other grains but please just avoid white flours whenever possible!
-Avoid Sugar. Enough Said!
It doesn’t have to be hard but it does take some time to plan, prepare and most of all committing to making daily changes! You can do it, the small things make all the difference!
