So we have arrived in Washington DC. We are here for a family event (funeral) and making a family trip out of it. My step-father’s after was a Tuskegee Airman, who passed away a few months ago. Because of his title and honorable position as an Airman, they are having a big celebration/ceremony at the Arlington Cemetery tomorrow so we are here in celebration and honor of him. 🙂
We left yesterday at 5 a.m. and arrived at 4 p.m. EST. We have rented a Vacation Rental, the ONLY way to go when you travel. An adorable apartment with a full kitchen, laundry, etc. It is our own little place, walking distance to everything. We really have learned, over the years how much better vacation rentals are over hotels, especially for our lifestyle. Having a kitchen is KEY to our program and the only way to make things work. Who can afford nor who wants to eat out 6-7x/day, no thank you! We love to gather all our groceries, eat in and then go out for an occasional lunch or dinner. It makes it really manageable and realistic to stay on our programs. Not that we are “strict” but our own home cooking is way better and more satisfying than any meal out!
Updates will be coming throughout the weekend as I share my travels with everyone. The plane ride was smooth and no problem. I brought some key essentials to get me through the trip. The essentials were a few chicken breasts, Quest Bars, sliced Jicama and protein pancakes. I was able to grab a salad at the airport and make it work, especially with my precooked chicken. You can always make it work. Where there is a will, there is a way and I can prove it to you anywhere! I picked up a California Pizza Kitchen Chinese chicken salad, removed the won tons and dressing, added my own chicken to the .5 oz they had on theirs and then added some Hot Sauce from the next door Mexican restaurant and I was a happy camper.

Upon our arrival we got settled and then headed out the door to the grocery store. Little did we know, this happens to us, we were out and about walking all over DC and ended up walking across town to the White House. We already saw quite a few monuments, in passing, and it was a fun adventure.
We found ourselves starving and there was nothing around except the refreshment stations so we walked and walked and finally came into downtown where we went to the first place we found, Gordon Biersch. It was NOT the best, hence again why we love our vacation rental, but it was one of those emergency situations where I did not like the way I was feeling nor where my attitude was headed. Yes, I tend to get irritable and am no fun when my blood sugar drops and am in desperate need of energy! After too much money for not the best meal ever, we at least were satisfied and able to continue on our journey. We walked all over, must have walked 5 miles. Finally found a grocery store, loaded up and came back to our abode. Our journey and trip has just begun and I will keep you posted.
Today’s meals:
Meal #1: 1/2 cup oatmeal, 1 scoop protein
Meal #2: CPK Chinese Chicken Salad with 4 oz chicken Breast & hot sauce
Meal #3: Protein Pancakes
Meal #4: Quest Bar (the best for travel!)
Meal #5:  Gordon Biersch Chicken with Veggies
Meal #6: Protein Shake
While we are away our exercise will be out and about walking and riding bikes. Love to walk everywhere so we are going to get in our fair share of cardio.
Feeling great, even with all the walking, so far no problems. It is a little hot and sweaty here but other than that feeling great. I am glad to be this early in my pregnancy so I can still walk around and not be uncomfortable, too hot or too tired!
Adjusting to the mini 3 hour time change but still finding myself getting up at my usual 5 a.m. hour, even though it is now EST. Geez, what have I done to myself but created a 5 a.m. monster no matter what time zone I am on. Anyways, nothing like getting your day started out right with some quite time in the morning, sipping on your coffee and eating your oatmeal and protein shake in peace.
And our day begins… Until later. xo Gina
