You’re not alone, everyone wants to know what to do when you forgot your food or didn’t have time to prepare your food and you are on the road?! There are several chain restaurants that now offer turkey burgers and what an amazing concept and often they are the better choice but you must beware. Recently Carls Junior has come out with their version of the turkey burger and this can be a very smart choice but you must be sure to order it properly! Here’s the deal: CJ offers three versions of its Turkey Burgers. The least fattening option is the Teriyaki Turkey Burger, with 470 calories and 14 grams of fat. The Carl’s Jr. crew don’t provide the full breakdown of nutritional stats from each ingredient on their website. In the regular 490-calorie, 23-grams-of-fat Turkey Burger, 109 calories and 13 grams of fat come from mayo alone! The bun contributes 206 calories and 3 grams of fat. So if you order the regular Turkey Burger without mayo, it’ll have 381 calories, 10g fat. If you skip the mayo and order it on a lettuce wrap instead of the bun, a.k.a. “Low Carb” style, it’ll have just 175 calories and 7 grams of fat.
While ordering out or even for your own cooking, for condiments, stick with mustard and ketchup. A little hot sauce can be good too. Isn’t hot sauce good on everything!! The things you want to watch out for are Mayo, aioli, guacamole, and other creamy sauces (i,e “animal style” at In n Out).
Stick with fresh veggie toppings for the most part. Lettuce, tomatoes, onions… all great and delicious. Pickles and jalapeño slices are also fun guilt-free topings. Keep calorie and fat counts in check by avoiding cheese, bacon, and any veggies that are fried, oily, or buttery.
Opt out of the bun and go for the Lettuce Wrap, often known as “Protein Style” in most chain restaurants. Chances are, you’ll save at least 100 calories that way. Did you know that the bun is often made with white flour but on top of that the buns are usually coated with butter! Yes so add on more calories to your white refined sugar bun!
Watch out for excess oil. If your patty arrives looking extra-greasy, they may have prepared it with too much cooking oil. Just blot it with a napkin to soak up some of that oil.
There you go so there are ways to eat healthy on the road, you just must know how to order your meal! Give it up for turkey burgers ordered the Gina Approved way!! 🙂
