We all know that balance and moderation are the key to our lifestyles, right? We may know but that doesn’t mean that we aren’t constantly working on achieving moderation. It is important to focus on everything we do, doing within reason and without excess. That means everything from exercise to the foods we eat, etc. Too much of anything isn’t always good. When we are talking about the holidays, it is the perfect time of the year to reflect on this concept of moderation. Excess seems to be the theme of the holidays, excess food, excess desserts, excess presents, excess stress, etc. We often give ourselves the green light to overindulge or have excess of this or that because it is the holidays. Let’s rethink that and get back to the foundation of what we believe in and that is balance i.e. moderation.
I believe that everything should be in moderation, including moderation. Being in balance and living a fit and healthy lifestyle means being fit 365 days of the year. That does not mean that you have to be excessively strict on the holidays, that is no fun, but it does mean that you should be moderate in your choices. You can still enjoy the holidays without overdoing it and crossing over the excess line. Yes, you absolutely can be moderate and enjoy the holidays while still reaching your fitness goals.
That means Yes you can have a slice of pumpkin pie but not an entire pumpkin pie.
Yes to carbs but not an entire vat of mashed potatoes or an entire tray of yams.
Yes, a glass of wine or two but not an entire bottle or two.
Yes, it is okay to have grandma’s green beans, even if they are loaded with butter, but just don’t consider this our typical FREE veggie and go crazy with your greens.
Be moderate with your choices and remember it is all about balance, everything in moderation and you will have a very successful holiday without any regrets!
