Good Morning, How are you feeling today? Amazing, I hope, and ready to conquer? Turkey’d out or are you ready for some ideas on what to do with all your left over turkey? Before I shed light on some Turkey ideas, a wrap up of thanksgiving. So we did it, we hosted our first Thanksgiving Dinner and hosted it with a A+! We started preparing everything around 10:00 to have dinner served around 4:00. Other than not serving until 4:30, everything went nice and smooth, food was delicious and Kitchen was cleaned before anyone took their first bite! We each had our jobs and dishes we were responsible for and it worked out great. My “jobs” were to prepare the candied yams, stuffing, cranberry sauce, veggies and sauteed mushrooms while the potatoes, Turkey and gravy was left for my chef in crime…So we did it, all our jobs were accomplished with completed perfectly, only thing that needs perfection is our timing…. It all worked out thought because while the veggies, stuffing, and yams finished cooking, the kitchen was able to get cleaned up so there was little to no post dinner clean up! A few things learned:
-cook yams and veggies before you put the turkey in so all you have to do is warm them and maybe put on the broiler, while the turkey is continuing to cook out of the oven. Raw yams take forever to cook and you will be waiting on them while the turkey is cooling, if you don’t pre cook!
-Cauliflower mashed are better than real potatoes, we all knew that… But I didn’t know I could get away with eating them instead of the real thing and nobody would notice! Yes you can!!
-You CAN clean as you go and have a clean kitchen Before you eat Thanksgiving Dinner (even with Kids and dogs running around) Yes you can!!
-Never prepared or hosted a Thanksgiving dinner and not sure how it is going to turn out… With proper planning and not too much thought, taking it one dish at a time, it CAN be done and with ease! 🙂
Now, if you are like us and have a ton of Turkey Left Overs… Here are some ideas of what to do with your leftovers…
-If you know friends that were not the host of their dinner and may not have leftovers, send them some of yours!
-Turkey for Breakfast… First thing, skip the protein shake and make a turkey omelet for breakfast! Nothing like left overs when you first wake up!
-Turkey dinner the next day. And the next, and the next…
-Turkey sandwiches. Mmmm… sandwiches. Just throw that turkey on some Whole grain Bread (Ezekiel or Julian) or even an Ezekiel Tortialla and it doesn’t get much better!
-Bring out that crock pot and make turkey soup with the carcass. Hopefully you didn’t throw that out… If you did, use the turkey meat itself! (my crock pot has already been cooking for 8 hours)
-Are you turkey’d out?! Freeze it. Yes, you can freeze turkey and remove it from the freezer as needed.
-Turn G-Fit Chicken Pot Pie turned into G-Fit Turkey Pot Pie 🙂
Can you say Leftovers? lots of left overs so enjoy, get creative!
Little Tip… Enjoy all your turkey leftovers BUT be sure to beware of munching and loading back up on those other side dishes that aren’t as diet friendly. You had your fair share of potatoes, candied yams, stuffing, pie, etc… Now it is time to get back on track and not allow those left overs to creep back into your plan. It is a new day and time to get right back on our bandwagon!
Some spend Black Friday knocking at the doors of their favorite retail stores while we are ready to knock down the doors to get our sweat on!
Enjoy today, a new day! Be thankful for celebration, friends, family, good eats and now today, this moment is time to pick it right back up. That is what makes this a lifestyle!
Big hugs to all of you and big congrats to those that conquered that Thanksgiving dinner!
