I've worked in advertising for the past 10 years. When I was living in LA and working for a large agency, we were constantly bombarded with sales reps bringing in food. From bagels and pastries to lavish lunches and dinners. I enjoyed it at first, but once I realized I had gained 10 pounds it got old real quick. Since I've moved back home to Santa Barbara, the lunches and dinners are now few and far between. We still get bagels and pastries in the office which brings me to the point of this post. Every Friday there are bagels in the office. Now, since I started training for bikini 8 months ago, I've completly lost my taste for them. Three weeks ago when I was in the height of cutting weight for my show I almost broke down and had one. They smelled good and I could hear everyone eating them! It was driving me crazy. Luckily I was able to eat my ezekiel bread that day. Thank goodness! I realized it was the crunchy that I was craving. I mention this today as I smell the bagels again and have absolutely no desire to indulge. I'm really much more interested in the necterine in my cooler. :)
It really amazes me how much my habits have changed since I've started this journey. While everyone around me stress eats garbage around here, I know I get to eat every couple of hours. My cooler is always with me, packed and ready to go. I'm always well prepared and I like it that way. It's made a huge difference in my quality of life. :)

Good for you! I love your statement about "quality of life" it really isn't about, (okay maybe a little bit) your jean size, it's about your enjoyment of life, does your lifestyle enable you to do all that you want to do. Sounds like your choices are creating a fabulous life for you!

Liz, I hear you on that typical office setting where food is everywhere and it is your carby or sugary options! Good for you for not only having the self control but for going for your healhty Ezekiel Bread which satisfied your little craving anyway! When you experience what you experienced, smelling the bagels that you once would give up your left arm for and now not even allowing the smell to get to you, that is huge! Look how far you have come! That is really amazing how your habits have changed and as you continue on the journey, your habits just become more and more ingrained.
Good for you for always having your cooler packed and ready to go! Preparation is key! That is my idea of "Quality" too!! :) We all have choices and looks like your choices are right in line with what you want out of life and your personal goals!! :)

Liz! I can so relate to this but you had such a wonderful solution! That's awesome!!
The lady that sits right outside my office always has cookies and candy and I have such a sweet tooth that I've struggled not to open the cookie jar since starting this new lifestyle. But I try to stick to a coffee (decaf) with cinnamon which usually satisfies the craving. But now that I've discovered protein pancakes which is honestly like a cake... I might have to use those as a substitute!

Jackie, I am right there with you on the sweet tooth. I am thankful it's all but gone these days and I find fruit really satisfys my cravings. I've got to limit that too. I had my first protein pancake this weekend and it was heaven! I wish I had know about those when I was training for my comps. Now I know! I love the coffee/cinnamon combo too, although I must admit I'm still on caffine (only about a cup and a half a day). In the mornings I usually add a scoop of vanilla proto whey to my coffee and it's almost like a vanilla latte....sometimes I think it's better. :)

Oh Liz! I do protein powder in the coffee too - it's a heaven sent!!!! :) I use chocolate so it's like a mocha of sorts.
I know what you mean about the pancakes - they would've been a lifesaver for the competition diet!
That's a great idea about the fruit too. It's funny as fruit tastes sooooo good after not being able to have it for the last 4-5 months!

Thats awesome that you were able to get past those cravings. I hear you on an office setting. My peeve is how picky certain people are about the smell of the food I eat - bad enough I get hassled for not ordering out everyday and "I am always eating" but certain coworkers dislike the smell of cooked fresh veggies and the smell of fish. I now eat all my veggies raw (better for you and keep you full longer anyway) and I worked my diet to eat fish at home and keep the seasonings to a minimum so I don't get the complaints.
How do you put together your protein coffee? - I have heard horror stories of how awful it is and I have never tried

Hey Randi, The work dynamic is interesting. I made sure never to heat up fish in the office because people get offended by the fishy smell. As for the veggies, well I figure people have to deal, if you don't like the smell of broccoli and asparagus then too bad. Interestingly enough, I don't get complaints when I eat egg whites (which is most mornings). I had someone in my office the other day as me if I'm eating again. I looked at her kind of funny and said, I eat 6-7 times a day! She said, well you know what I mean. I smiled politely and nodded because she just doesn't get it. My eating habits have forever changed and for the better! Today should be interesting, we have a department lunch at a local pub. I really hope I can find something clean and that won't upset my stomach on the menu.
Anyways, for my protein coffee, I use Proto Whey. I put a scoop in a cup (add some cinnamon) and add my coffee. The Proto Whey easily mixes into the hot liquid. It doesn't get chunky. You just have to stir it every now and again. I made the mistake of using another brand yesterday morning and it was so gross. I won't make that mistake again!
