Okay girls! I need help with something that will satisfy my chewy food craving during prep! I am a chewy food lover - caramel, taffy, mochi, dried apricots and cranberries, etc. Gum works but only temporarily. It's the texture more than anything! Any ideas for something to eat during prep that's chewy in texture?!? Help! Help! LOL!!!! I don't have any fruit right now either so nothing with that. Ideas? Anyone?
Help! Chewy food craving!

Hey Erin! I have a concoction that I eat every day. I call it my protein pudding -- my boyfriend calls it hog slop! Ha! But I LOVE It! I cook my oatmeal (making it really mushy, with a 1 oats : 5 water ratio) After it's cooked add tons -- literally TONS -- of cinnamon, 2 pkts stevia or splenda and 1/2-1 tbsp ground flaxseed. Then I dump my pre-mixed protein shake - choc or vanilla are both great - (use about 4oz water/ 1 scoop) into the prepared oats, mix it all up, and microwave it for another 1-1.5 minutes, until it turns into a ewwy-gooey substance. It is TO DIE FOR!!! In the winter, I eat it hot.. right now, I make it ahead of time, put it in the fridge, and eat it cold... literally JUST LIKE PUDDING!! It's not exactly chewy like taffy, but it's scoopable and savorable! I hope these directions make sense, and i hope this helps!

Erin, Oh no, got a chewy gewy craving huh... I have to give this some thought! I love Miranda's concoction and I have one similar but I think she has the exact consistency of the "hog slob" down just by how she cooks the mix and for how long, along with the perfect amounts/ratios of the ingredients! Have to love the chewy consistency! You can also place a scoop of protein with a touch of water, simply mix to the right consistency... thick and so when you lift the spoon it barely falls off to the bowl. Place it in the freezer for enough time to slightly harden more and then enjoy! Talk about a seriously chewy hog slob... Okay since you are not much of a sweet person, sounds like you need to cook up some octopus, squid or have some clams or oysters, talk about chewy! Throw something together and over your salad for dinner. Maybe make a seafood salad, that may do it!! I will put on my thinking cab and go through my Gina's Approved treasure chest for more ideas...
Check back as I think of some of my favorite chewy ideas! ;)

Ooh, Miranda, the hog slop sounds great! Maybe not quite chewy enough but we'll see. I'm going to make it today so I'll let you know. And Gina, I can see where the protein powder/freezer recipe would definitely work too. I'm not usually a sweet person, true. But in this case it actually is a chewy sweet thing I'm craving...oh yes. If you think of anything else let me know. I'm good for now with these 2! Thanks girls!!! I knew I could count on my girls here to help me out!!! :-)

Erin,
Since you already know that I am a freak, I'm not afraid to tell you what I do... hahahah
In the same style as Miranda, I created a FIBER PUDDING! Oh oui, Madame... :)
In a coffee mug, I mix together 1 tea spoon of every dietary fiber I have (flax seed, chia, hemp, salba, psyllium...etc - whatever you have on hand), 1 tea spoon of glutamine, 1 tea spoon of chocolat whey protein and if you like coffee, just throw a pinch of instant coffee in that mix.
Mix with just a small amount of water, just enough to have this pudding texture and voilĂ ! Curb your cravings, feel full, and you had your fibers for the day :) :) :)
Sounds weird, I know... but just give it a try ;)

Erin, Glad we were able to give you some suggestions!!! Anything to help you fight that chewy craving!! There is always a way!!!
Claudine, love your fiber pudding!!! One quick note, note the calories and fat grams in some of the "fiber"/seeds you add to the mix, if you are following a specific plan...
Have to give this one a try!!! Love just going through the cupboards and finding things to throw in a hodge podge!!
Doesn't sound weird to me, I love these crazy concoctions!! :)Posted 2 years ago # -
Claudine...YOU, a freak? What? Really?!? Ha ha ha!!! Your fiber pudding sounds interesting. That will have to be my next one to try, after Gina's.
Miranda, I made yours today. It's yummy! Hog slop ROCKS!! I still need something chewier though so I'm still trying to come up with something. I'll let you know if I find it...or create it!
Thanks again girls!! You're the best!

Wow - hog slop! never would have thought! you girls are so creative! Erin - i here you on the gum - there have been many days sitting in the office when my jaw is sore from chewing gum! I'm not much help here - when i want something chewy i tend to go for something cruncy because that's the next best thing - like celery! that is my favorite crunchy food!
