For those of you who want to hold yourself accountable and have a place to post your daily log, accomplishments and tribulations, here is a place to do so. You can post everyday, a few times a day, every other day, once a month or whenever you feel like it. People can chime in and help motivate or give you that extra push. Some of us like to keep our goals written down and some don't need the accountability but for those that want a place to post log your training/nutrition, I wanted to offer a place for that! Thanks to Jennifer G, I have created a new topic "my Daily Log!!"

    enjoy!

My husband and I absolutely love pizza - this is my #1 choice for a cheat/refuel meal/. Usually we try our best to eat healthy during the week and then have pizza on the weekend. So last night (thursday), we got home from work and we just were not in the mood to cook and eat something healthy. We debated...do we order pizza tonight....or should we wait till saturday...Well, yup, you guessed it - we called to order it! As i went to pick up the phone, the girl on the cover of the new M&F hers magazine was staring there smiling at me - uughg!!! I felt guilty for a moment but then told myself - that this is ok and that i just will eat better this weekend (this is the new me) don't overstress about food - i find the less i stress about it the less i crave.

so we got the pizza and i only ate 2 pieces, as i was too full to muster down another slice, and you know what - i was happy with that. So this morning i woke up, went on to my usual morning schedule of cardio on an empty stomach and i feel great! I even decided to make chili before work this morning(no salt added crushed tomatoes, with extra lean gd turkey, celery, onion, kidney beans, and yummy spices). It is currently cooking in my crockpot and it will be ready when i get home from work - i am so excited!!!

Awesome job with your choices!!! I went to PF Changs last night with M and a friend and had a super healthy meal... Steamed Broccoli and Chicken with a side of steamed asparagus (no sauce on anything) with extra lettuce and made my own wraps! It was delicious. Then I had my craving for frozen yogurt so went out for that. First FRO YO since the show. It was delicious. That was my refuel and now off to the bay for some HIT cardio and weights will come later. It was delicious, I must say! A refuel meal and it sure worked. I am with you Jenn I feel refueled and ready to hit it today and continue with my usual clean meal plan for the day.

Don't feel guilty, you are human! No reason to sit with guilt and stress about it. That does nothing but make you crave things more, you are absolutely right. Here we go again with the entire mind battle that we have to see through and overcome!

The difference here is that you were able to order the pizza and moderate the amount of slices you had. 2 pieces, calling it good and then following the next day with a great workout is a perfect combo. The nutrients from the pizza most likely helped you and gave you the energy to hit it HARD today! Not only did it help you physically but mentally. Overcoming the fact that you CAN have a slice or two, be okay and just continue on with your usual plan. I am so proud of you for your decisions. I have continued to watch you grow and you are really making life long changes. It is a process, of course, but everyday we get closer to reaching those goals. :)

That chili sounds delicious!! Don't you love that crock pot!! Mine is sitting out and ready to be used too. Maybe I will follow along and whip up some chili myself!

Have a great day and keep up the great work!!!

    Happy Friday!

I just got back from a long walk with Bruno along the bay. Walked about 1 hour. Then to the gym for my HIT 10 min run. jogged 10 3 minutes, ran hard 8.0mph for 10 minutes and finished last 2 minutes with an all out sprint. Cooled down and then finished with a 10 minutes circuit.
    -push ups off 10# dumbells
    -squat press with 20# dumbells
    -bench dips
    REPEAT 3X....

Perfect way to start the weekend. Feeling great and refueled from my FRO YO! :)

Sounds awesome! Sometimes i wish i had a dog just so i could take him on long walks. Don't laugh, but i actually have a leash for my cat "Macy" - she's a himalayan persian. she has always been an indoor cat but this year we decided to give her some excitement and take her outside - on a leash of course - she thinks she's queen bee and that she can go wherever she wants :)

Holy smokes - 8.0 for 10 minutes is fast! - how cool. sounds like a great workout. I am definitely going to try that meal at PF changs - it sounds yummy

    Have a nice weekend!

How cute, Macy on a leash... Love to see a picture of that. Yes, I was moving on that treadmill but it felt so good. In the off season, I really enjoy my runs! I am considering a running a marathon, maybe start with a 5-10K! :) I felt so good. That food from last night gave me that extra push and the fuel I needed.

    Have a great weekend also!!

Today I have gotten back on track. This morning I trained back, chest and abs. Then I went for a 10km run which felt great! There is a great trail by my house with lots of hills so I get a pretty good workout. I then came home and cooked up some beef barely stew from Tosca Reno's new cookbook and it was delicious!!! Then I filled the tub with hot water and lots of epson salts and soaked all my muscles...they deserved it!!! What a great day!!! I really want to lose 10lbs by Christmas so I need to get my butt in gear, I may try Gina's Fit:50 diet plan...any suggestions?

Gina, you should run a marathon! I am pretty sure I am going to do the Arizona Half with Kevin and some other friends...and of course, I haven't given up on my goal to qualify for the Boston Marathon or complete a half Ironman. I just have to plan accordingly so that it doesn't interfere negatively with my goals in Figure! But, marathons are quite similar in that it really is a mind over matter kind of thing. Training and dieting for a marathon is so easy...but, during the actual race (for me) I ran much faster than what I trained, which is normal. So, at about mile 22ish I really had to push myself to keep going- it was all in my head--Much like when in contest prep. You would do great! Let us know what you decide. The San Diego Marathon is awesome as well as LA, Chicago, and Arizona is totally flat...I wouldn't recommend Detroit (ick!) worst marathon ever. :-)

Hey Ali! Thanks for the motivation and I am honestly really thinking about it! I ran 2 miles today, under 6 1/2 minute mile!! I just love it. Get some good music on and go. It is so fun for a change to be able to run my little heart out! How do you train differently and how did you eat in prep for the marathon. Wow, your goal is a 1/2 Ironman!!!??? You go girl! You definitely do have to plan accordingly so that it doesn't interfere with your Figure goals as the training and nutrition is SO different. There is no way you could run a marathon on a 5 week out figure program!! Just like all sports, I could see the similarities with the mind over matter obstacle. The good news is, it is a time in the end and you get judged on something measurable! I have heard that you just run off adrenaline and just go, while you are in the heat of the moment! I have also heard that you do have to dig deep within your mind to overcome the mental barrier and push to the very end, ExacTly like a contest prep! Do you suggest a 5k to start?

    How is your training going?

Woke up this morning and did cario on an empty stomach - I usually do not eat before i go to the gym for cardio, since i am trying to lose some weight. I walked on an incline for 2 miles and ran for 2 miles. Heading back to the gym after work today to show my girlfriend the "weight section" at our gym. She usually runs and does classes but recently she hurt herself during her marathon training. About a year and a half ago she decided to run her first 1/2 marathon - it was hard for her because she was never one to run farther than a couple of miles, but she worked hard and stuck to her training schedule and she ran her first 1/2 - she was elated. she has run in 1/2's and decided that she wanted to run in the Honolulu marathon this December. about a month ago she had serious pain, some how she got a stress fracture and has had to pretty much stop excersing "doctor's order" She thinks she hurt herself by not consistently running. She was suppose to do three 6 mile runs during the week and her long runs on the weekend - but she failed to stick to her routine of running the short runs. She thinks the stress of doing only the long runs caught up with her as it was such a shock to her body

Gina - i think if you want to do a marathon you should definitely do it..It sounds like Ali has quite a bit of experience with running these and i would listen to her...based on my friends experience i would definitely stick to a specific training schedule. I live in the Detroit area and I would definitely agree...it is probably the worst place to run a marathon "so i've heard". the 5k will probably be easy for you since it is only about 3 miles - but it would be a great place to start - 10k would be an option too

Jenn, Great job on your workout so far, and you are heading back for more!!??
Doesn't it feel good to get it out of the way! That a.m. cardio on an empty is also the way to go for optimal fat loss! Doing that HIT training too, way to go girlie! Sounds like what my cardio has been lately.

That is too bad your girlfriend got injured, that must be so hard to have to take time of, per doctors orders. Knock on wood, I have never had to take time off because of an injury. With my knee I had to alter things but never HAD to take time off. of course, by choice, but that is different!

Thanks for your support in possibly doing a marathon. I think I would start with a 5 or 10 K and if so I will definitely seek the proper training advise and expertise so I do it right. Thanks for the pump... I am really thinking about it! :)

Have a great rest of your day!

Wednesday morning, 0600 i have to do my pt test. Im not worried about passing that has never been a problem but i always want to get a perfect score of 300. The run is my weak point, i can knock out 92 sit-ups, 41 push-ups, but i need 10:56 for my run time, i am not fast. I think all this cardio you have me doing has actually made my running better. Wish me luck! Oh yeah if i get high outstanding, i get four days of liberty.

Morning Pepper!!! You can do this, I know you can. I will be thinking about you and rooting you on, tomorrow! I know you will pass and not only pass but get your perfect score. Remember you just need to visualize that score and it is yours. Wow, 92 sit-ups and 41 push-ups, awesome!!! I know you will nail your running and get that time down. All the cardio you have been doing has conditioned you for that run. See you didn't even realize it but not only were you in prep for a show but for this PT test... see I had it all planned out for you ;)

pepper-- tonight, I want you to add 2 rice cakes and 1 tbsp peanut butter to give you that extra pump and energy for your test! Enjoy~

Good luck and keep me posted! I will be thinking about you. You CAN DO IT!

Gina, the rice cake and pb helped. I wasn not hungry this am. Well my pt test is done and i did 109 sit ups, 60 push ups and my run was 11:52. it was all mental. I always tell myself i can't run and make it hard for me plus all the cardio you have me doing definitely helped. I mentally told myself i would run it in 12:00 and i did better. Last one i ran in 13:00mins, so def improvement!

Your right, the mind plays a major part. I did not do any extra running to prepare like I said i was going to and i was fine. I just told myself i would be.

Speaking of mental thoughts, I keep seeing myself on stage in my green suit. I'll talk to you about the suit issue on Sat.

    thanks for your support.

CONGRATULATIONS!! I am so proud of you and so glad you pushed through and accomplished your goals. It is mind over matter... We have to ask ourselves, are we physically tired or mentally tired and can we push through? The answer is usually YES!! I am so glad you pushed yourself and you did it!

You mentally prepared yourself and that was all you needed. With all the cardio and conditioning, you were definitely prepared in that area it was your mind that took you from there. Just like in a show, your body will be ready and usually it is clockwork, the last few weeks but what needs to be trained and paid close attention to is your mind. Visualize and the rest falls into place! This was a great example of the power of those thoughts and your mind. Glad you have been using this exercise to prepare for your show. I can't wait. You are improving with everyday! I am so proud of you! Have a great day!!

Gina- that actually sound like a great workout!

Pepper - awesome job on our pt test!

today is friday - woke up this morning fast walk on incline for 1.5 miles, then did 5 minutes of band work with walking lunges, bear crawls, figure 8s. the ran 1.5 miles - I am at 7.5 but i did a quck test to see how fast a 6.5 minute mile would be and i believe it was either 9 or 9.5 - ummm Gina - that is fast - let us know when you do it!!!!

Today only did a 4 mile walk and took the day off from training. Tonight I am heading out for another walk with Bruno so cardio it is for me. Jenn, love the workout. Love how you split up the walk with resistant work and then finished with the run. Great way to mix things up. I know 6.5 minute mile is pushing up into 9 or 9.5! I know that is fast! I have done it before and went to try it this week, as my goal and umm... i think I need another week to work up to a full mile at that pace. I will keep you posted! :)

I went to the gym this morning and did a total of 20 minutes of cardio: 10 mins on incline walk and 10 mins run. I was going to hop on the bike for an extra 10 mins to do a total of 30 mins of cardio this a.m., but I decided to just make it up this evening. I like the freedom to just go with how I'm feeling. I did some ab exercises after cardio and then went to morning chow where I had: 1/2 cup of oatmeal, 2 hard boiled eggs (without the yolk), 1 slice of plain wheat toast, and a small bowl of watermelon. I'm headed back to the gym this evening to train legs and do 20 more minutes of cardio. I'll tell you how it goes! Maybe I'll even push it to 30 minutes of cardio! :)

Great way to start your day Steph!! I love your thoughts and mentality of going with how you are feeling. Doesn't it make your workout so much more fun and you do feel like you are free. You chose to not do all 30 minutes this a.m. and are going to make it up later because you want to not because you have to. There is such a huge difference when we allow ourselves the freedom of the mind and listen to what our hearts, minds, and bodies are telling us! Awesome breakfast!! Only suggestion here is I would add a few extra egg whites. I would have a total of 4 minimum. 2 egg whites is on the low end and not enough protein, for our needs and based on what I know about your goals. Let us know how your Freedom p.m. Leg training goes. You Go Girl! Have a great day!

I am off to go on a long walk myself, to the bay and not the gym, why... because I WANT TO! :) I got in another evening walk last night so yesterday was a total of 6 miles. I am becoming quite the outside walker.

    I have had meal 1: 1 pro dessert, 1/4 c. oatmeal, 1 apple, coffee..

    other meals TBD!

    happy halloween!

*I will definitely add two more egg whites in the morning Gina! Thanks for the tip!!!

So I just got back from the gym and dinner chow. At the gym I trained legs as best as I could, but I really didn't like the equipment/machines they had there. The chair on their leg extension machine was way to inclined and hurt me every time I lowered my legs because of how short I am. It sucks being such a shorty (5'1) because I can't fit on half the machines in the gym lol. Their leg area was pretty wack anyway, so I just stuck to dumbbells and barbells. I did romanian dead lifts, squats, cable dead lifts super set with off-the-bench lunges (like in Gina's dvd), some side lunges, standing calf raises, and jump roped in between each set. I did between 3-4 sets on each exercise with a rep range of 10-12. I really don't keep count because I like the freedom to just go out there and workout without a strict routine. Having that freedom makes working out that much more enjoyable to me. It doesn't mean I slack or don't push myself, though. I just like going with the flow and not doing the same workout every single time. There were a lot of people on the cardio machines, so I jump roped throughout my leg workout as my alternative to the treadmill. Did you know that 1 min of jump roping burns 16.6 calories? So if you jump rope for 10 minutes you burn 166 calories! YES, you can burn 166 calories in just 10 minutes by jump roping and it doesn't even have to be consecutively. Another fun fact is that you can burn up to 1000 calories in an hour by jump roping! So for all of you out there looking to mix things up in your routine, I totally recommend you start jump roping! It's cheap, portable, and you can do it anywhere! I love adding the jump rope into my workout and in between my sets because it keeps my heart rate up and not only do I burn fat by not taking a break, but I burn twice as more by jump roping and then hitting another set immediately after wards. It's also good for the calves, by the way! So after training legs/jump roping for an hour, I finished my workout off with a 5 minute sprint on the treadmill. I only went up to 7.8, but I know I could go up to 8 next time. So there was my workout tonight. I don't feel bad that I didn't stick to the original plan because I just went with the flow and had a great workout. For dinner I had: 4 oz baked chicken, 1 cup of brown rice, and some broccoli and green pepper stir fry (no sauces added). Before I go to bed I will have 1 scoop of strawberry milkshake by BSN Syntha-6. I love how that protein tastes! Hope you all had a fun, productive, day. It's getting cold here in Iraq now. Makes me miss home! Much love from the desert...

hi Steph, Sounds like you had a great workout and did the best you could. Sometimes that is all you can do so great job powering through and doing what you had to do!
Love your attitude of freedom fitness... love it! Doesn't that make such a difference!!? It does make it so much more enjoyable! It is good to see someone else who utilizes the jump rope! That is a great cardio workout and we often just forget about it. Thanks actually for reminding me. I have one in my trunk I need to pull out. Thanks for the tip and info!! I love incorporating some jump rope in between sets and exercises. I have training routines for my clients as such... It keeps your heart rate up and keeps things fun! You are right, it is cheap, portable, and you can do it anywhere, Great tip for those that don't have a membership or are looking for that home workout! WOW, you had quite a workout, you are motivating me to go back to the gym for a session of sprint work and jump rope! Delicious and nutritious dinner also!! Thanks for sharing and we are thinking about you out there in Iraq! thank you for your services!!! hugs

Today was my complete day off from training. I did, however, purchase a bike!!! We don't have POVs (privately owned vehicles) here in Iraq, so we either have to take the shuttle bus around the FOB or walk everywhere. I was lucky to have been able to purchase one at the PX today because bikes are a high commodity here and whenever the PX gets a new shipment in, they are gone in a matter of seconds. So, along with my regular cardio sessions (5 days of the week), I will be doing extra cardio by biking everywhere! I'm so excited to shed the remaining fat around my hips/thighs once and for all!!! :)

Enjoy your day off Steph! Glad you got your bike. I have been wanting to get one myself. I could ride to and from the gym and then when Bruno gets older and can run, That would be a blast to take him out with the Bike and allow him to fun. What a great way to get in that extra cardio. What "fat around your hips and thighs..." I don't remember seeing that! Enjoy the first of the month!

I got up this morning and did 30 mins of HIIT cardio on an empty stomach; 10 mins incline walk between 4.5-5.0 pace, 10 mins run between 5.0-8.0 pace - mixed it up every 30 secs/1 min, and did 10 mins biking back and forth from the gym! I must say, I LOVE MY BIKE! It's such a great and convenient addition to my life :)

These are my meals so far....
Meal 1: 4 egg whites, 1/2 cup oatmeal, 1 plain wheat toast, 1 cup of tea
Meal 2: 4oz baked chicken, 1 cup brown rice, 2 cups broccoli/green pepper/cabbage + garlic seasoning stir fry (no sauces)
    Meal 3: 1 scoop strawberry milkshake syntha-6 protein + 1 medium apple
    Meal 4-6: TBD

I'll be going back to the gym this evening to train light chest, tri's, and do 20 mins of cardio. I've been feeling amazing all day! Hope you guys have a productive day and enjoy your workout!!! Much love from Iraq <><
