July 30th Update

Jul 30 2012

What an amazing day! Started out with a great workout and then an exciting trip to the doctors. I have to say that each time before I go to the doctors is a bit scary. You want to make sure that everything is going smoothly, your baby is growing at the right pace and of course you hear the heartbeat. This was the first time that I had a check up without an ultrasound so I was anxious to hear the heartbeat, since we couldn’t see our baby on screen. It was a short visit, in and out. It was as simple weight check, pee in a cup (checking for protein and sugar in your urine), heart rate and blood pressure check, Q&A with the doctor and finally the best part, getting to hear the heartbeat. Every time, it becomes more and more of a reality. Now I am starting to physically feel a little more pregnancy and less bloated or like I ate one too many burritos BUT mentally I feel like myself again. My energy has been great and I really don’t have any complaints. That is what I immediately said to the doctor when she asked how I was doing. I said, “great, almost too good…” She said that was totally normal in the second trimester. Each trip to the doctors office really enhances your confidence with everything because as I have realized it is totally normal to have those thoughts of what if… That you have to let go of and just roll with. Knowing that you are healthy and doing everything in your power is all you need to know and do and the rest will all unfold beautifully. I left the office one happy girl ready to take on this next month until we finally find out if we are having a baby girl or boy. The next visit is the big 20 week visit where they measure everything, check things in detail and of course check the sex and tell you what you are having. Less than 5 weeks away and we will know if we will be buying blue or pink… I have to say that I don’t have a total gut feeling but I am leaning towards Boy. That is what everyone has said and I am starting to believe it. You hear all these stories and based on what my symptoms and non symptoms have been… looks like I am going to be buying blue… Hummmm… We will have to wait and see!

Today’s rundown

MEAL 1: 1/4 cup steel cut oats, 1/4 cup wheat bran, mixed berries and 1 scoop protein shake
MEAL 2: 6 egg whites and an apple
MEAL 3: Quest Bar
MEAL 4: lean ground turkey/cabbage slaw with coconut aminos
MEAL 5: 2 cups brown rice puffs with 1 scoop protein (used as “milk”)

Workout:
50 minutes incline treadmill 30/20

2 sets, 20 reps of each
-assisted pull ups

What an amazing day and nothing like a heartbeat to bring a smile to your face and get you through the next 5 weeks until our next visit and next visit is the big one…

Until tomorrow. hugs and more hugs, Gina

How wonderful! Gina how has your supplementation changed since u found out Baby G was on his/her way?

    • Great Question Jodie! My supplementation is very minimal these days only taking my Prenatal Vitamin with DHA, 1 fish oil a day (omega 3) and my probiotics. I am going to start adding in a calcium supplement too since I am really trying to get in more calcium but it does’ tome natural to me. They say that as the baby continues to grow, calcium becomes more and more important and you don’t want him/her taking from your stores so I better load up.

Pre pregnancy, my supplementation was pretty similar, since I have really limited my supplements now that I am not in competition mode and just living the lifestyle. I was using the same but adding more fish oils. Now I have to watch the amount of fish being ingested and would rather get my sources from the real things so keeping it to 1 capsule or about 2.5 g/day.

I would say the biggest change is that I don’t miss a day of vitamins. I have not missed my prenatals in over 6 months! When we started planning and trying, I started taking them and have been taking them ever since. :)
